Adopt a gluten-free blogger and an uncooking party

Iris at The Daily Dietribe recently hosted an adopt-a-gluten--free-blogger-athon. I thought this was a super cool idea. Ever since I first came across Lisa's blog, Raw on $10 a day, I've been meaning to test drive some of her recipes; this was the perfect opportunity.

Of course because timing always works out so perfectly, I ended up having an event to plan at work. I had great teammates helping me to do so, but it still took up an insane amount of my time. So, I ended up not being able to really try out any recipes for a while.

But then! Kate and Robin emailed me that they were stopping in Toronto as part of their cross country tour. So we got together and had an awesome uncooking party of Lisa's fabulous recipes. The food was amazing and the company awesome. And, like any good dinner party, there was lots of kitty hugging. Ryder, the amazing foster kitty/best kitty ever was so excited and ran around so much that he was panting by the time Kate and Robin were leaving.

*warning: the pics kinda suck. They really did not turn out well. Oh well, guess I'll have to make these dishes again for another photo op :) *

Menu:
green soup
pad thai
chocolate peanut butter banana ice cream
Everything raw, except the peanut butter (could swap out for almond butter, but I didn't have any of that around either...)

Green soup
We used this recipe, but subbed cayenne pepper for salt and pepper.

Pad thai
We based our dish on this recipe:
3 large zucchinis
2 large carrots, sliced
2 c snow peas, julienned
1 bag enoki mushrooms

sauce
1/2 c peanut butter
juice from 2 limes
1 clove garlic
2 Tbsp ginger, grated
water, to thin

Without sauce...

With sauce...

Chocolate peanut butter banana ice cream
I have been eying this chocolate ice cream recipe for a long time. And it seriously lived up to and far beyond my expectations. It was creamy and chocolatey and so so delicious. I made the chocolate batch and then the nutty ice cream batch (with some agave) and mixed them together in the ice cream maker. So so SO good.

yum!!!

Kitty hug time

Dav and Ryder share a snuggle. I sit jealously by.

Your blog and Lisa's blog are my two favs. Glad to see you brought some recognition to her site but would be disappointed if your blog turns into a duplicate of hers. You are my food hero lol :) Cute pic of the cat and the boy.

Thanks!

Ooh, I need to try that ice cream. Seriously! I have never in my life made ice cream from scratch. It always seemed too magical and mysterious of an undertaking. Can it be done sans ice cream maker?

Btw, I found your blog via the Adopt carnival... so glad I stopped by!

(I accidentally deleted my comment above; sorry about that!)
thanks for the comments!

wyllow - Lisa is hardcore. I'm way too lazy to ever find out the exact make up of my recipes, whether in terms of calories or in terms of cost; you have nothing to worry about :)

Maria - You can definitely repost the recipe. Email me if you have any questions: seleneatveganlicious @ gmail.com

Saxifrage - you do NOT need an ice cream maker for it! In fact, I tried using an ice cream maker and it didn't really work; this is an ice cream that actually prefers being put directly in a freezer. enjoy!

I just made the Pad Thai and I absolutely LOVE it!!! Thank you for posting!! I didn't put my sauce in the blender, I just mixed it. I also used part peanut butter and part almond butter (just because I didn't have enough of either) and it turned out fine.

I just used a carrot shredder. Not sure what the thing is to make pasta out of zucchini. Thanks again!!

Raw vegan meal plan (Day 2) and raw vegan tacos (or, my new obsession)

I've moved! Visit my new home  Make Life Beautiful for more recipes and healthy living tips. Don't forget to update your bookmarks! I'm building my meal plan to allow for leftovers, because in any meal plan, really, leftovers are kind of needed to get by timewise. A note on raw eating...I am trying to achieve a high raw lifestyle, meaning that 90-95% of what I'm eating is raw. However, when it comes to spices and oils and tamari, I am often not opting for the raw versions. For spices and oils, this is a matter of accessibility (other than coconut oil, which is easy and inexpensive to acquire); although I am going to try to find and use more whole versions of the spices (like the tumeric root and cardamon pods, for instance), it will still be very hard to determine whether these are raw. For tamari, this is because nama shoyu (the raw version) contains gluten, which I am allergic to. Now, you could go with bragg's soy sauce-like product, but I don't use e

Make your own raw tahini and cheesy tahini broccoli recipe

I've moved! Visit my new home  Make Life Beautiful for more recipes and healthy living tips. Don't forget to update your bookmarks xoxo Broccoli smothered in cheesy tahini sauce I already toted the many amazing benefits of sesame seeds here so we'll skip that part in this post and go straight to the awesomeness that is tahini. Raw tahini is delightfully easy, and inexpensive, to make. And you can do such awesome things with it! I personally love using tahini as salad dressing. And when I discovered you could make a delicious cheese sauce with it...!! You can't really tell from the photo, but this makes a deliciously creamy and cheesy sauce that you can use on zucchini linguine, or for kale chips, or really just about anywhere that cheesy goodness could go (which is pretty much anywhere). The cheesy tahini broccoli is my version of Julie Morris 's awesome recipe. While you're there check out her other recipes, yum they sure do look good! How t

Raw vegan chili and a raw meal plan for the lazy chef in all of us

I've moved! Visit my new blog La Belle Vie for more recipes and healthy living tips. Don't forget to update your bookmarks!   Hearty bowl of raw chili Ok, it's been a great great weekend for many reasons: went to an amazing clothing swap put on by V. A. S. T. , went to my adorable niece's birthday party, attended a wonderful raw potluck (yum!!), and went to my uncle and dad's joint bday lunch at my uncle's place. And to make everything even better, there were amazing people and conversations throughout it all! So that part has been great. Of course, all the family get togethers mean that I haven't been eating as raw as I normally do. And I'm really noticing how much better my body does when I'm eating mostly raw. I feel much more grossly full and sluggish on cooked foods. And my throat is burning as it's giving me some serious acid reflux issues. I've also been on this stupid cleanse (I bought it a long time ago and figured I had be
